The Moroccan Sahara...The European Union supports the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty ✍️👇👇👇

He describes it as "the most viable solution."

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, confirmed today in Rabat the new European position on the Moroccan Sahara, considering that “genuine autonomy could represent the most viable solution” for the final settlement of this regional dispute.

On the occasion of her working visit to Morocco, at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, Ms. Callas reiterated the basic parameters of the European Union’s position, which calls on all parties to “participate in talks without preconditions and on the basis of the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, in order to reach a final political solution.”

This position, endorsed by the 27 EU member states, was expressed in a joint statement adopted by Mr. Bourita and Ms. Callas following their meeting.

In this joint statement, the EU “welcomed” Morocco’s willingness to “detail how autonomy will be implemented within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.”

On the other hand, the European Union noted “the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2797 (2025), which fully supports the efforts of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and his Personal Envoy to facilitate and lead negotiations on the basis of the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco.”

This European stance is of particular importance and constitutes a strong signal ahead of the upcoming United Nations Security Council meeting in a few days.

Besides the European Union, a number of European countries, at the national level, have expressed their explicit support for the Moroccan Sahara and for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco.

This international dynamic, launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God grant him victory, reflects the consensus of the 27 member states of the European Union in favor of a final settlement of this regional dispute on the basis of autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty.
